SUCCESSFUL TOURNAMENT ON OKOROIRE SPRINGS i COURSE W. B. COLBECK WINS CUP The pleasant surroundings of Okoroire hot springs are becoming increasingly popular as a week-end holiday resort and over last week-end quite a Iarge number of visiting golfers gathered for the fourth annual tournahient of the Okoroire Golf Club. A well laid-out nine hole course is one of the attractions of the Springs and the tournament drew record . entries. Players were present" from Auckland, Rotorua, Otorohonga, Thames, Tauranga, and Matamata Clubs, and the tournament was favoured by excellent weather. The course was in first class order. The Okoroire Cup for the best gross score was won by the Middlemore veteran, W, B. Colbeck, with a score of 74 — 72 — 146. Colbeck played * very consistent golf and although some of his tee shots were a shade astray he made up by the excellence of his iron shots and approaching. S. E. Carr, of Rotorua, was runner-up with a score of 75 — 74 — 149. Other good scores returned were, Dr. Macky (Auckland), 76 — 74 — 150; and Malcolm Carr (Rotorua) 75—80—155. The first medal handicap was won by F. C, Barnett (Putaruru) with a score of 80 — 18 — 62. In the afternoon, a four-ball bogey handicap was played and finished with a tie 6 up between Dr. Macky and J. Farrell, of Auckland, and Ward and Craig of Otorohanga. In the play off the Auckland pair won. The second medal handicap was won by D, M. McMillan of Mamaku, 76—11—65. The third medal was very closely contested and was won by C. M. Croft of Auckland, 81 — 16 — 65, with E. Shalfoon, of Rotorua, one stroke further back, with a card of 80- — 14 — 66. Other good cards returned were O. Jones (Auckland 79 — 12 — 67; J. Farrell 83—16—67; A. Kusabs (Rotorua) 78—11—67; E. La Trobe Hill (Rotorua) 78 — 11 — 67; W. B. Colbeck (Auckland) 72 — 5 — 67; E. Fenton (Rotorua) 82 — 13 — 69. At the conclusion of the tournament prizes were presented by Mr. A. A. Martin, of Auckland, president of the club, Mr. Colbeck, as winner of the cup briefly replying.
