Rotorua Ratepayers' Assn.
(Editor's Note. — Mr. Naumann in his reply to what he exaggeratedly terms our "attack upon the Ratepayers' Association," has strayed rather widely from the point in one of two particulars , with the result that his letter misrepresents our attitude. We have not so far on any occasion discussed the merits or demerits of the petition referred to. Neither have we at any time questioned the Association's motives in the matter. It was its methods that we criticised and we repeat the criticism without modification. Mr. Naumann's claim that the Borough Council — present or past — has used improper methods, eveti if he can prove it, does not justify him or his Association. Two wrongs do not make a right and we are a little surprised that he should quote a bad example in justification of the extremely ill-advised course taken by his Association. We should be among the first to welcome a strong and healthy Ratepayers' Association in Rotorua and it is largely because we do repognise the value of such a body that we feel it our duty to criticise the Association's actions when we feel they are adopting ill-advised methods).
