SEVERAL RE-CENT INCREASES REVISED, OTHERS ABOLISHED TOBACCO DUTY REDUCED
-By Telegraph — Copyright.)
WELLINGTON, last night. Customs Resolutions amending those brought down earlier in the session were agreed to in the House of Representatives to-night. The duty on manufactured tobacco is reduced by 6d per 1b and British gramophone records are now to be admitted free, with a duty of 25 per cent. on foreign records. In the July resolution a duty of lid per lb was imposed on molasses. As a sufficient quantity of this material is not made locally and it is used mainly for st'ock food purposes, it is now proposed to abolish the duty. It is found that certain chemical substances are either used as, or are utilised in the manfacture of, manures and it is proposed that these, as well as manures, should be exempt from primage duty#
