PLUNKET SOCIETY

SUB-COMMITTEE FORMED IN ROTORUA. A meeting to form a sub-committee of the Whakatane Plunket Society was held on Thursday last at the repidence of Mrs. F, W. Wilkie. Introducing the secretary of the Whakatane Society, Mrs. Sutcliffe, Mrs. Wilkie briefly explained that the body that had hitherto functioned as the Plunket Committee was not an official one, as the position was filled by a district nurse working under the Health Department. As Nurse Naumann, who had done sterling work in the district for many years, was retiring, it was proposed to form a sub-committee of the Whakatane Society. For this purpose, Mrs. Sutcliffe had kindly consented to come through and explain the working of such a committee. Mrs. Sutcliffe then explained the object of her visit. The central council, she said, preferred. a flourishing sub-committee to a struggling branch. It was decided that the services of the nurse would be required for the present for two days a week,' Monday and Tuesday of each week being considered the most convenient. The annual quota to be raised in the district for two visits a week was fixed at £60, and the committee were confident that the sum would be raised. 1 * The Rotorua Motor Transport Co. and the Aard Motor Service had very generously consented to transport the nurse free of charge, if she did not take the place of a passenger. The committee were extremely grateful for this concession, as otherwise a large sum would have to be raised to meet this expense. The meeting expressed its appreciation of Mrs. Sutcliffe's interest. The following officers were elected. President, Mrs. F. W. Wilke; vicepresident, Mrs. S. Hay; hpn adviser and physician, Dr. S. H. Hay; hon. physicians, Dr. H. Bertram and Dr. S. Wallis; hon auditor, Mr. E. Roe; hon. treasurer, Mr. F. W. Wilkie. hon. secretary, Mrs. J. Halkett; committee, Mrs. Roe, Mrs. Wallis, Mrs, Smith, and Miss Johnson.
