SLAUGHTERMEN'S BOMBSHELL AT AUCKLAND FREEZING WORKS
"ORDERS FROM UNION" AUCKLAND, Fri. A bombshell has been thrown at the management of the local freezing works by the refusal of additional slaughtermen to aeeept work. The men are understood to be acting on orders from the union in Wellington not to accept work till their award has been considered by the Arbitration Court at Christchurch on November 5. Slaughtermen now engaged are not affected, but the restriction on the engagement of new hands is a serious matter to the industry, which is on the eve of its busiest season. It is estimated that if the refusal to work continues from 300 to 400 men who normally find employment will be affected. The number will be increased as the lamb-kiliing season approaches its peak. As far as is known only the Auckland Union officers have enforced the instruetion.
