BUTCHER ADMITS TALE OF ASSAULT WITH PEPPER ,WAS FABRICATION FACES FRAUD CIIARGE

WANGANUI, Friday. On Tuesday * morning William Henry Symons, a buteher, of Wanganui East, reported to the police that at 6.30 that morning pepper was thrown in his f ace by a person hiding behind the door of his shop, and that he was assaulted and robbed of £14. As a sequel to the story Deteetive Murray arrested Symons last evening and he appeared before the court this morning charged with receiving £13 12s on terms requiring him to aecount for the money to Senior and Bennett and did fraudulently omit to do so. Deteetive Murray, in aslcing for a remand till November 4, stated that Symons now admitted that the story was untrue and that the injuries he sustained were self-inflicted.
