FLIGHT FROM NEW YORK TO BRITISH WEST INOIES ATLANTIC ATTEMPT POSSIBLE
. — By Telegraph — Copyright.)
Rec. Oct. 39, 5.5 p.m. MONTREAL, Thurs. Bert Hinkler, the famous airman, has cabled here from Kingston, Jamica as follows: "Have no other plans at present than a visit to South Africa. My aeroplane is absolutely suited to the task, though whether I take the trip is entirely dependent on being able to meet the expense. "The Karchi took off well even though it was carrying 500 lbs. overload. Bumpy winds while passing over New York offered the severest test of the strength of the ship and caused me most uncomfortable feelings. "I encountered heavy clouds and storm areas at night about 150 miles off the mainland, and went down twice before recovering altitude and had to climb about 8000 feet in the clouds. I found fine moonlight at 10,000 feet a great aid in reading the instruments. "The good ship ran perfectly and I landed on the polo ground in Kingston in time for breakfast."
