Repairs to Talkie Plant After the fire in the Majestie Theatre projectot box on Wednesday afternoon which destroyed a length of film and caused considerable damage by water from the fire hose, the operator immediately set to work to repair the plant. He was assisted hy the Western Electric service engineer who arrived from Whakatane about 8 p.m. and good progress was made wxth repairs dnring the evening. Work continued through yefeterday in drying out the mechanism and replacing damaged parts and everything was in order by late afternoon for the evening's programme. The damage cansed by fire and water is estimated at £100 and several valuabl,e parts were destroyed. Curiosity Would Have Paid The service engineer in charge Of the maintenance of the Western Electric talking picture machines in the Bay of Plenty district was preparing to leave Rotorua on Wednesday afternoon for Whakatane and Opotiki, when he heard the fire alarm. N6t troubling to find out where the fire i was he departed and had no sooner ' arrived. in Whakatane than he received an urgent request to return to Rotorua to repair the Majestie Theatre sound plant, damaged by the very fire he had considered not worth investigating. . Mothers' League Garden Party The monthly meeting of the League of Mothers' Association will be held on November 6, and will take the form of a garden party to be held at the residence of Mrs. H. Y. Bertram, Ranolf Street. Members are reminded that a Christmas tree will be provided for children under seven years of age. Buildings for Health Camp The work of removing the Suvla and Anzac wards and accompanying buildings from King George "V. Hospital to the Otaki health camp, is | now completed, and the carpenters fiave departed. The remaining sections of the buildings have been loaded on to trucks in the railway yards and will be taken to Otaki to-day. Mail Delivery Extended The Postmaster at Rotorua advises that in response.to representations it has been decided by the Department to extend the second daily delivery of mail to include the southern end of James Street and Seddon Street West. Up to the present this closely settled area has had only one mail delivery daily. Ladies' Golf The following were the best cards returned in the bogey mateh played by the Rotorua Ladies' Golf Club on Wednesday: — A grade: Miss Snodgrass, 1 down; Mrs, Dingie, 3 down; Mrs. La Trobe Hill, 5 down. Plunket Society to be Formed Ladies interested in forming a j Plunket Society in Rotorua, met yesj terday afternoon at the residence of | Mrs. F. W. Wilkie, Pukaki Street. An | address was given by Mrs. Sutcliffe, secretary of the Whakatane Plunket Society, and it was decided that a society be formed in Rotorua as a sub-branch of the Whakatane Plunket Society. A committee to further the project was appointed by the meeting. Withdrawal of District Nurse The Department of Health has issued instructions for the withdrawal of the district nurse from Rotorua as from Saturday, October 31. Sister Jackson, who has recently filled the position in Rotorua is taking a short leave, after which she will be transferred to another appointment. Tennis Season Opening. Members of the Rotorua Tennis j Club will officially open their season j on Saturday on their courts in the j Government Gardens at 2 p.m. Proceedings will take the form of a Yankee tournament. Well at Abattoirs. After the serviees of a water diviner had been requisitioned to indicate a souree of supply, water was struck at a depth of 25 feet the well which is being sunk to supplement the sup- I ply at the Rotorua Borough Abattoirs. The well has now been lined with 3ft concrete pipes and is ready to be connected np with the pumps. Two world famous men have contributed technical aid in the filming of "Young Sinners," Fox pieturisation of Elmer Harris' stage hit. John McCormaek, the Irish tenor, visited his friend, Thomas Meighan, on the set, and not only gave him permission to sing "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" in the picture, but also contribute4 little coaching.
