EX-MINISTERS BEATEN
MESSRS SHAW AND GREENWOOD LONDON, Tuesday. Within a few minutes of Mr. Henderson's defeat came the news of thedefeat of the Labour ex-Minister of the Cabinet, Mr. Morrison in a straight-out fight with a Conservative at Hackney. Another bombshell was Mr. Tom Shaw's defeat at Preston, despite his prestige as Secretary of War. The next Labour ex-Cabinet Minister to fall was Mr. A. Greenwood, the ex-Minister of Health, who was defeated for Nelson and Colne, in a straight fight with a Conservative whose majority was 7684 compared with Mr. Greenwood's majority of 10,297 in 1929. A notable Labour gain was at Newport (Monmouthshire), where a Conservative, Mr. J. Clarry was defeated by a Labourite. In 1929 his majority was over 2000 but Labour has reeovered the seat with a majority of 8591. The first minority victory was at Kirkdale, where a clergyman standing as a Protestant polled 7834, whieh gave the Conservative a victory of 4772 over the retiring Labourite.
