The "News-Chronicle" says that | owing to the new heavy taxation j Lord Harewood, Princess Mary's hus- ! band, is selling his London residence, i Chesterfield House, and will let i Goldsborough Hall in Yorkshire. He | is also reducing his Newmarket rac- ' ing establishment. | Lord Harewood is reputedly one of j the wealthiest men in England, but ; he is hard hit by taxation. He and ' Princess Mary are anxious to effect ' the necessary economies without dismissing any employees. i Chesterfield House is London's fini est mansion. Lord Harewood bought it at a great cost and redecorated it I before his marriage to Princess Mary. I It contains a magnificent eollection | of old masters. It is recalled that Lord Harewood recently sacrificed tlie Canning jewel, which aecording to tradition was the gift of a Prince of the House of i Medici to one of the Mogul emperors. ; It was found in the Treasury of the ; King of Oudh when Delhi was taken , during the Indian Mutiny. It came ^ into the possession of Lord Canning, '.the first Viceroy of India, and later passed to Lord Harewood. It is also announced that taxation is compelling Lord Durham to close Lambton Castle, and that he is probahly selling his family's ancestral paintings, including Lawrence's "Red Boy," for which he refused an American offer of £80,000 last year. Lord Sackville is selling two Reynolds portraits from his famous eollection at Knole Park.
