RUSSIAN SUBMARINE DAMAGED IN COLLISION WITH STEAMER RETURN TO PORT REPORTED
— By Telegraph — Copyright).
Rec. Oct. 26, 7.40 p.m. MOSCOW, Monday. The Tass agency declares that the Russian submarine, rammed by the German steamer Gratia, was only slightly damaged and returned to Kronstadt under its own power. An earlier message stated: A serious disaster is reported to have occurred in the Gulf of Finland. The German steamer, Gratia, 2068 tons, of Flensburg, rammed a Russian submarine, which sank, and 50 lives were lost. When the submarine sank the steamer's S.O.S. was indistinct owing to interference. This is suppos- ! ed to have been due to a Soviet station seeking to prevent the broadcasting of the disaster.
