RACING NOTES AND FORM PROSPECTS

— "W "W (Specially written for the "Post" by the "Judge").

Brilliani fields all round will be seen out at the Wellington Raeing Club's spring meeting, opening to-day at Trentham, and there should be some great racing. The course promises to be in fine order, unless the wet weather of twelve months ago should be again in evidence. The first event, the Glen Hurdles, has not attracted a big field, and of . the eight left in the southerner, Quinopal, who is said to be good, may have the call over Landmark and Mountain Heath. If the northerner, Rippling Waters, is sent for the Taita Handicap, she should lead the field a merry danee over the f our furlongs, for she is very slick. This event reads better for her than the classic contest. Grand Joy and Posy can also hit out fast for half a mile and they may offer the danger to the A.R.C. Weleome Stakes winner. The three-year-olds King Colossus and Royal Artist promise to play their part in the decision of the Wainui Handicap. The latter will appreciate the drop in weight compared with his northern imposts. Pitquex and Croupier also have good prospects, although the latter will be respected if started in the big sprint, and this would appear to be his race. After her Auckland win, in a rather moderate field, and before she was quite tuned up to her best, there wil].. be no laek of support for that brilliant filly, Lady Pam, and she will give her numerous supports a fine run for their money in the W ellington Handicap. Gay Crest, Kahikatea, Compris, Cricket Bat, Merry Damon, Admiral Drake, Cessation, Little Doubt, Pahu and Spearful will not lack friends, but the strongest support should undoubtedly be forthcoming for Lady Pam, Cricket Bat and Compris. The Rimutaka Hack, which by the way precedes the Wellington Handicap, is going to be an extremely hard race to win. Gay Court's Wanganui form stamped him as a good threeyear -old, and he ought to run a fine race against other possibles in Lady Vane and Esteem. It is*to be hoped that there will be as many as 50 per cent. of withdrawals from the Wellesley Stakes, for the prospect of anything up to 35 runners will only serve to hamper the good ones. Tankard is perhaps the best youngster seen out to date, and the north also holds strong hands in other winners in Tea Trader and Rippling Waters. However, it would appear as if the money will go in on Tankard, Midinette (galloping at

Wanganui) , and Tea Trader, with the firstnamed as holding strong claims j to be the prospective winner. Tank- I ard's win at Ellerslie under nine j stone, when he was not asked to do anything like his best, was impressive. If Croupier is reserved for the Shorts Handicap he ought to go a fine race. There will be oposition, I however, from good ones in Laughing Prince, Cimabue, Silvermine, High Comedy, Curie and Impetuous, to name a few, and th| last pair, with j their light imposts, may make it merry j for Croupier, who, however, is well 1 treated. \ There is the usual big bunch of hacks in the October Handicap, so luck in the draw and subsequent running, even on this almost straight "six," will have its consequences. Child Study, Chief Cook, Sabatini and Pakitere will be in the sighting line On Monday the Harcourt Cup, run over a mile at weight-for-age, will be contested by Hunting Cry, 9.4, Laughing Prince 9.4, Gay Crest 9.4, Ephialtes 9.0, Lady Pam 8.9, Bronze Eagle 7.11, Croupier 7.11 and Cricket Bat 7.11. Lady Pam meets the others on very nice terms, and the issu,e would appear to lie between this filly and the three-year-olds Cricket Bat and Bronze Eagle. H. Gray will ride the latter at about 51b overweight. Waikato Hunt. The annual race meeting of the Waikato Hunt Club at Cambridge on Monday, Labour Day,1 is but one of the many meetings staged for that holiday, and it certainly is one of the most important of the season's hunt gatherings, ranking very close to that of the Pakuranga Hunt, which has the advantage of racing at Ellerslie. Fields are good throughout and the course ought to be in fine order. The following will be well backed in their outings: — - Maiden Iiunters' Steeplechase. — Lenaubin, Platina, Dark Light. Bardowie Handicap. — Kingsway, Teels, King's Archer. * Hunters' Hurdles. — Pennyplain, Nassone. Members' Handicap. — Protomint, Flying Prince, Sir Mond. Waikato Hunt Cup. — Nukutere, Tettomai, King's Counsel. Bruntwood Hack Handicap. — Rose Lupin, Hollyholm, Princess Bede. Ladies' Bracelet (amateur riders). — Ruby Dawn, Billy Boy, Nassone. Bollard Memorial Handicap. — Tradesman, Chromadyne, Volimond.
