' A total of 380,000 trout fry was libbrated from the Ngongotaha hatchery duririg the" past week -and stocking o'pe'rations throughout the distriet are now well forward in preparation for* the opening of the fishing season on November 1. Last year ; stocking probeeded alihost through December, but this season the spawning p'efiod was considerably earlier and - as a result stocking should be almokfc completed by the heginning of November. ■ '■ Fifty' thousarid' fry' were liberated in both -Rotokakahi- and Rerewhakaitu lakes during the week„ ;and 40,000 in the Hamurana stream. C'onsiderahle stocking was also -carried out iri sevbral of the Bay of Plenty streams, * Where a total of 150,000 fry was liberated during' the Week. Fifty thouSand Were released in both the Waimana' arid Waioeka streams, 30,000 in the Whakatane and 20,000 in th© Rangitaiki. ; Lower dowti 'at * Murupara, a further 40,000 were liberated in the Same river, while 20,000 were put out in the Whirinaki at Te W'hbiti and 30,000 in -ihe Waikato below the Huka Falls. * • • • 4 " • • -
