TAXI PHONE
ARAWA STREET STAND DISPUTE NOT YET SETTLED "If these people canxxot behave themselves in an ordinary sane business way, the council would he perfectly justified in closing the stand altogether. There are faults on both sides," said his Worship the Mayor {Mr. T. Jackson), when reporting to the Rotorua Borough Council last 'night that he had been unsuccessful in his endeavours to seeure an amic'able settlement of the taxi-owners dispute over the use of the Arawa Street stand taxi telephone. The owner-drivers on the stand and other owners operating under a comhpany, are at varianee regarding the use of the phone box and for some time past efforts have been made to settle the dispute. After some discussion, it was moved by Cr. O. H. Coleman and second>ed by Cr. A. Smith that it be suggested to the taxi-drivers eoncerxied that a second telephone box be erected on the stand, provided that the drivers on the stand are prepared to carry a proportionate share of the extra cost.
