TOWN CLERK' S REPORT UPON EVIDENCE ON RATEPAYERS' PETITXON The Rotorua Borough Council last night went into committee to receive the report of the Town Clerk (Mr. W. A. McLean) upon his visit to Wellington in order to give evidence before the Local Bills Committee in connection with the Rotorua Ratepayers' Association petition seeking to prohibit the council from using land in the lake-front for other than recreational purposes. When open council was resum,ed, the Mayor, (Mr. T. Jackson) reported that in committee, a vote of thanks had been accorded the Town Clerk for his capable handling oi the council's case. There was nothing further to report. In moving that the council go into committee, the Mayor explained that as Mr. McLean had given his evidence before a Parliamentary Committee, the council shoxxld also go into committee to consider it.
