— By Telegraph — Copyright.)
ASHBURTON, Wednesday. A search of the Ashburton River is being made for the body of Wilga Jeaxi Clayton, married, aged about 34 years, with four children who is supposed to have been drowned. She had been in ill-health for some time. The police were informed by two lads yesterday afternoon that they saw a woman drink something and throw herself into the river, becoming stranded on a shingle "bank. They rushed in and took a bottle and a razor from the woman, who fought them. They dragged her out, but on running to inform the police saw her again in the water.
