MAJESTIC

TO-DAY AND TO-NIGHT The final screenings of "Loose Ends" and "Not So Quiet on the Western Front takes place at the Majestic Theatre to-day and to-night. They are both British pictures and have proved popular. The chief attraction for Thursday and Friday is "Charlie Chan CarOn." Although "Charlie Chan Carries On" deals with a series of mysterious killings among a group of Americans, none of the action takes place in America. The group is on a round-the-world tour, and the occurrences take place in London, Nice, San Remo, Hongkong, Honolulu, and on the high seas, with the exciting climax being reached just as the party approaches San Francisco on a big trans-Pacific liner. The picture is said to follow almost exactly the Earl Derr Biggers' novel from which it was adapted by Fox, and is heralded i as one of the most entertaining and baffling films of the season. Warner Oland has the title role oi the smiling Chinese detective whose keen intellect sblves the mystery after Scotland Yard has failed, while the romantic leads are played by Marguerite Churchill and John Garrick, with Warren Hymer and Marjorie White furnishing most of the comedy. Hamilton MaeFadden directed the mystery drama for Fox, and the large supporting cast includes such favourites as C. Henry Gordon, William Holden, Jason Robards, John T. Murray, Peter Gawthorne and George Brent.
