MAMAKU LEADS NGONGOTAHA DISMISSED ' FOR 21 AT FIRST STRIKE. SECOND INNINGS RECOYERY. In one of the two opening matches of the cricket season on Saturday, Mamaku sueeeeded in dismissing last year's championship winners, Ngongotaha, for 21 runs at their first strike. Mamaku, in reply, made 70, and Ngongotaha, recovering, in their second innings, made 130, leaving Mamaku 30 to win when stumps were drawn with three Mamaku wickets down for 52. Ngongotaha won the toss and went to the wickets. Dawson and Craig opened to the bowling of Reid and Faulkner. With only five on the board, Dawson put his leg in front of a straigt one, Two balls later, Craig was bowled, the incoming batsman having his wickets shattered by the next ball. Reid was bowling well, and with three wickets down in four balls, went very closer to his hattrick. The remaining batsmen carried the score to 21 after 40 minutes play. Mamaku opened with Kelly and A. Simonds, who put on 27 before Kelly was bowled by a shooter. A Simmonds batted well for 23, and D. Simonds and Reid were the only others to reach double figures. Ngongotaha made another disastrous start at their second strike, Dawson, Henderson and Craig, all three going for a total of two runs. The advent of*McCardle and Lowe changed the complexion of the game completely and added 88 for a most valuable partnership. Birnie also batted steadily for 19, and the innings closed for 130.
