Rec. Oct. 12, 11.40 p.m. LONDON, Monday. The Liberal-Conservative imiroglio, which came to a head in he Darwen Division, Lancashire, epresented in the last Parlianent by Sir Herbert Samuel, :ontinues to be the chief topic of lonservation and there is much measiness among the Conservaives in the constituency. 4any leaflets have been issued by Herbert Samuel's headquarters. e reads: "Ve consider that protive tariffs would be futile and pid," whilst another says: "If tbe de balance is unfavourable this ir, there is nothing to be alarmed iut. It would be foolish to rush into juack remedy like tariffs." There is undoubted danger to the ty of the National Party unless Conservatives are assured that Liberals fighting under Sir Hert Samuel's banner are prepared to e the National Government their ale-hearted support. Conservative ididates may even be reinstated in istituencies where they have aldy been withdrawn in favour of erals.
