MOTOR CAR PLATES.

NEXT YEAR'S RE GISTR ATION S. Motor registrations for the year 1932-33 are expected to total about 210,000, according to the speeifications for the manufacture of the plates. Of these, 180,000 are for cars and trucks, and 30,000 for motor cycles. The tenders for the manufacture of plates have been called for, for periods of one, three and five years. The colours of next year's plates will depend upon whicfi of these periods the contract is let for. If a tender for one year only is accepted the colours for the 1932 plates will be white on blue, but in the event of tenders being let for a number of years, the colours for the period will he selected from the following list: i White on blue, orange on black, black, on yellow, black on white, black on aluminium, green on white, and blue on white. Next year's plates will be distinguished by a bar being placed at the foot of the numerals, and between the two groups of numbers comprising the registration. The characteristic markings for the succeeding four years are given as follows: — Sfar,' diamond, circle, and colon, although these may not he used in that order, if the colours selected match those of previously issued plates, since it is necessary to use the stop as a distinguishing characteristic.
