NEW P. AND O. LINER
A fire detector, by which even the lighting of a cigarette or a pipe in any hold will be instantaneously revealed to the officer on the bridge, is one of the novel features of the new P. and 0. iiner Strathnaver, on which the Earl of Incheape enterfained a large party, including representative Australians, on a two -day trial trip from Glasgow to Tilbury. This is the first P. and 0. steamer to be painted white, which reduces the temperature by four degrees. In addition, a thermotank ; ventilation system gives a controllable • current of air in every berth. An inovation is the tourist class — comfortabie and spacious. There are swimniing baths and a talkie apparatus in each class. The ship represents the company's determination to keejp ahead of foreign competitors.
