SUCCESSFUL EFFORT FOR METHODIST CHURCH ■■ 1 ' FUNDS • * STALLS AND-.COMPETITIONS The Cherry Fair, promoted by the Methodist Ladies' Guild in aid of the funds of tha.JBainbridge Memorial Church', ahd .held i on Wednesday afternoon and..evening in the Peerless Hall proved a tremendous success, despite the unfavourable wea•ther. The .novel scheme qf decoration, [ large branches of • cherry .trqes with hanging bunches of the fruit, attracted a great deal of attention. The various stalls, tastefully .deeorated and displayed, floprished under ,the able management o.f the ladies ,ip. charge, and the satisfactory ,snm ,of.£55 was raised bytheeffprt. f A special feature of the^iaie was the ;fine display ,of cut flowers and plants -at ,the^ flo.wer stall, qrganised b.y Misses A. and ,E. White," with Mesdames Hardcastle and Wall, and Miss Jolly, as willing helpers. During the afternoqn cqmpetitipns; were organised. A cooking cempetition -resulted in a varied and attractive selection of cakes. The ,bag of briquettes, kindly donated hy Mr. W. L. Richards, was.'won by Miss Whit-. burn, who gained first prize for her Ghristmas cake. Miss Whitburrr also succeeded rin gaining the piece of Nallyware donated by Mr. G. French Mrs. Graham was the winrter of the handsome glass bowl presented hy Mr. B. Cumming, and Mrs. Daviddon won Messrs. Wallace and Co.'s ' prize, a scone dish. *■ . Other prize winners were Mesdames Speer, Cavanagh, Wishnowsky, and Glover. * •• The evening competitions provided much amusement and interest, the prize winners being:— Cork spearing, Miss Jolly; ladies' nail driving, Mrs B. Davidson; gentlemen's nail driving, Mr. H. J. Hardie; ladies' wood sawing, Mrs.' Carter; ladies ping pong competition, Mrs. Rowe; gentlemen's ping pong competition, Mr. K. Pethybridge. The ladies in charge of the various stalls were: sewing and fancy work, Mesdames Whitley, Skellern, Tuck and Speer, Misses Pethybridge, Rosser, Gandy, Carter and Cottrell; cakes, Mesdames Ball and Hardie; sweets, Mrs. Wishnowsky and Miss Wylie; produce, Mesdames Harris and Davidson; tea rooms, Mesdames Drxon, Steele, Cottrell, Bates, Jackson, and Misses Berendt, Hart, Pethybridge (2), Staple, and 3. Davidson; cherry pie, Miss Audrey Davidson.
