wellington championship tournament A. J. SHAW'S BRILLIANT ROUND WELLINGTON, Thursday. The outstanding feature of the opening day of the Wellington Provincial Golf Championships at the Hutt Links to-day was the brilliant round of 72 by A. J. Shaw, the New Zealand Open Champion. Shaw went out in 35 and came back in 37. Hitting long balls off the tees his, score was good enough to win him the prize of £7 in the Provincial Bogey match, his card showing 3 up. The Open Champion did not fare so well in the medal match in the afternoon, in which he took 78. This event resulted in a tie between A. Dykes (Hutt), and J. R. Galloway (Palmerston North), both. of whom did a net 72. N. Fuller (N.Z. Golf Association) , J. Lambie (New Plymouth) , and L. Goss came next with a net 73. Among the amateurs, Rana Wagg (Hutt), retained the Winter Cup with rounds of 80 and 75, H. R. Adamson (Waimihi) and L. Buist (Hutt) tying for secona plaee with 15. H. A. Black, the New Zealand Amateur Champion took 162, and J. Goss (Wanganui), en ex-amateur champion, 163. The qualifying rounds for the Amateur Championship were played to-day and match play will continue to-morrow and Saturday. The Wellington Provincial professional championship over 36 holes will also be contested to-morrow. In the draw Shaw meets Fuller.
