KING'S SPEECH

(British Official Wireless)

prorogation crisis continues to give cause for anxiety MR. SNOWDEN'S FAREWELL

RUGBY, Wednesday. The King's prorogation speech was read in the House of Commons and contained the following passages: — "My relations with foreign Powers continue to be friendly. "I have been following with interest and sympathy the resumed deliberations of the Round Table Conference. I trust this joint endeaveur may produce agreement on a plan which should commend itself to the judgment of wise statesmanship. "In the last few weeks my people have been called upon to face a financial and economic crisis which continues to give cause for anxiety. The measures taken to meet this emergency involve sacrifices from every member of the community, and I am cjonfidejnh, as on former occasaons in the history of the country, that every citizen will co-operate to the utmost in restoring prosperity." Many members of Parliament are already at work in their constituencies, aad there was a poor attendance when the House was prorogued. It was the last occasion on which the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr Philip Snowden, will appear on the floor of the House. Owing to illhealth he is ending his House of Commons career, and the speaker, Col. Fitzgerald, and many members of all parties made a special point of bidding him farewell.
