LADIES' GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
The New Zealand Ladies' Golf Championship tournament, which will open in Rotorua to-day adds another to the series of important New Zealand sports events which have been held in this centre. Rotorua will extend a welcome to the visitors from all parts of the Dominion who will be participating in the tournament. The actual welcome which the Rotorua Club will extend goes without saying and will be in keeping with the very complete arrangements and hospitality which the club has always extended on any tournament occasion. The holding of such an important event as a New Zealand Ladies' Golf Championship in Rotorua gives cause for gratification, and provides further evidence of the increasing extent to which the attractions of this centre are being recognised. The splendid golfing facilities which have been provided through the enterprise of the Rotorua Golf Club, have played no small part in emphasising its attraction. Golf in New Zealand, as in every other part of the world, has gained a phenomenal popularity and in New Zealand Rotorua has become a species of golfing Mecca. Nature has unquestionably assisted very largely to this end, but the club has shown commendable foresight in the development of an attraction which is undoubtedly one of the greatest assets of this town as a holiday centre. Rotorna's golf course has a reputation all over New Zealand and visitors from abroad have never failed to appreciate its charm. It is to be hoped that the fickle dieties which control the weather will be kind and repay the club for its painstaking organisation, by typical Rotorua! sunshine throughout the tournament.
