STOCKING WATERS
ONE AND HALF MILLION FRY DISTRIBUTED TO DATE ROTORUA ACCLIMATISATION Approximately 1,500,000 trout fry have been distributed in Rotorua district fishing waters as at September 26, and stocking operations are still proceeding busily in many of the streams and lakes. Last season 2,359,000 fry were distributed but it is impossible to forecast how far this season's operations will proceed before all waters have had the necessary quota of yonng fish. Distribution in a number of the lake areas has already heen practically completed for the season, however, and the Department is now transfering its attention to the Bay of Plenty area which comes within the scope of the Rotorua Acclimatisation district. In Rotorua lake, 500,000 fry have been distributed, and 350,000 in Lake Rotoiti although in this area distribution has not yet been quite completed. Distribution has concluded in Lake Tarawera, .Rotoehu, Okareka, and Rotoma. Fifty thousand fry 'have been released in each of the. last three lakes and 150,000 in Lake Tarawera. Distribution is at present proceeding in Lake Tarawera, and the Rangitaiki and Whakatane streams and tributeries. Ova are arriving at regular intervals from the stripping grounds at Tokaanu, and the Ngongotaha hatchery is working at full pressure.
