The Metropolitan went to a despised outsider, Strength, who was placed well throughout and finished stoutly under the vigorous ridiftg of Jockey Bartle, gaining the victory by a head. Results : — THE SHORTS HANDICAP High Disdain, 8.4 (Cook) 1 Merab, .2 (Jones) 2 Casquedor (D. Munro) 3 Eleven started. Autopay was favourite. Merab was the early pacemaker and led into the straight from Autopay, Burracoolbo, Holdfast and Tom Pinch, with High Disdain moving up smartly. High Disdain took eharge at the distance and won narrowly by half a head. Time, 1.11J. BREEDERS PLATE Caramba, 8.5 (McCarten) 1 King Moab, 8.5 (D. Caramba ran to the front passlng the leger and maintaining the advantage, gained the verdict by three lengths. Time, 1.04. Eighteen started. Chide was f avourite. Imperialist was the early pacemaker from Dear March, Green Bird, Potent, Strength, Carry On and Chide. Passing the half mile Imperialist was just clear of Chide, Potent, Talkie, Strength and Spearman. At the distance Spearman had charge, closely attended by Talkie and Strength, with Concentrate finishing fast. After a stirring struggle Strength snatched the victory by a head. Time, 2.451. CENTENNIAL PARK HANDICAP Charalf, 8.7 (D. Munro) 1 Dermid, 8.0 (Cook) f Workman, 8.12 (Bartle) f t Dead-heat. Twenty-two started. Stage Lad was favourite. Workman was the first to show out. He led into the straight from Charalf, Dermid, Stage Lad, and Hunt the Slipper. Charalf took charge passing the leger and going on won comfortably by two lengths. Time, 1.12|.

GRANTHAM STAKES Sir Duninald, 9.5 (Pike) f Mr. Kerry, 7.10 (Simpson) f Flying Dave, 8.3 (McCarten) 3 f Dead-heat. Sir Duninald was favourite. When the horses settled down, Rondalina led the field from Sunlit Reef, Sir Duninald, Mr Kerry, Senator and Miss Notlave. Rondalina was the first to turn home, closely pressed by Sunlit Reef, Mr Kerry and Sir Duninald. At the distance Sir Duninald was in front, but Mr- Kerry got up in time to make it a dead he'at. Time, 1.53. SQUATTERS' HANDICAP Dennis Boy, 7.5 (Knox) 1 Reasonable, 6.1 (Britt) 2 Don Moon, 8.6 (Williams) 3 Eleven started. Vali was favourite. Grand March led the field along the back from Don Moon, Vali, Exact and First Acre. Grand March was first to turn for home from Don Moon, Vali and First Acre. Don Moon took charge and appeared a likely winner, but Dennis Boy finishing fast on the outside went on to win an easy victory by three lengths. Time, 2.5|.
