fortunes in riding huge sums paid to popular horsemen by leading english stables SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD BOY'S FEE

LONDON, Sunday. Gordon Richards, the champion jockey, has contracted to ride for the Beckhampton stable next season. He is to receive a retaining fee of £4000, plus 10 per cent. of- the stakes won by the horses he rides. The stable J this year won over £75,000 in stake money. Assuming it to he equally successful in 1932, Richards will receive £11,000. He will he at liberty to ride for other stables in races where the Beckhampton stables are not represented, ensuring at least an additional £2000, as there is a big demand for his services. Thus he has the prospect of a total income of £17,000, the highest in. the history of raeing. A 16-year-old boy will earn at least £2500 in the 1932 racing season owing to Lord Glanely appointing F. Rickaby to succeed Richards. In addition to a £2500 retainer, he will also receive a share of the stake money. F. Darling is the trainer at the wellknown Beckhampton stables in Wiltshire, and amongst his patrons are Lord Woolavington, Lord Lonsdale, the Duke of Portland, Mr H. E. Morris, and others. The late Lord Dewar's horses were also entrusted to the Beckhampton stables.
