AMMON RA OUTSTANDING THREE-YEAR-OLD OF SEASON A.J.C. MEETING SYDNEY. Saturday. Th A.J.C. Spring meeting opened at Randwick in dull and showery weather, with an attendance of 40,000. The track was in excellent condition. The New Zealand horses enjoyed a royal day, annexing two of the richest races of the day. The ex-New Zealand jockey, McCarten was successful in each race. Ammon Ra was the outstanding three-year-old of the season, winning the Derby in smart fashion, and running prominently throughout; he had the race in his "pocket half a mile from home. Autopay gave a sterling 1 performance in the Epsom, running to the front soon after the barrier rose. He was never headed. Ticino issued a strong challenge in the straight but Autopay, finishing in a bulldog fashion, prevailed by a neck. Ammon Ra's winnings are now in the vicinity of £20,000. He is regarded here as a brilliant horse. Chide's effort in the Spring Stakes won him a host of admirers for the Metropolitan for which he has displaced Yeilmond. Chide returned to his best New Zealand form, and stuck to Phar Lap like a champion. Results : — RANDWICK HURDLES, a sweepstake of 2 sovs each, with 300 sovs added. About two miles.
