Followers of Hoekey will he provided with two further representative matches this season, the Hamilton Old Girls' team playing here next Saturday and on the following Saturday the Kiwi (Auckland) team being the visitors. Both teams are well known as good exponents of the stick game and the. local players can expect to be fully extended. j It was the intention of the Hamil- j ton team to make the. trip last weekend, but permission of the Auckland Ladies' Hockey Association was not forthcoming in time, and in eonsequence the Rotorua Association was left without a match. According to a newspaper report ' it appears that the Auckland Association referred the application of the Hamilton Club to the N.Z. Ladies' Hockey Association. This action»appears to he unnecessary as Waikato is a sub-association of the Auckland
Ladies' Hockey Association. Rule 8 of the last-named Association gives the executive committee power to decide matters such as this. It is only associations with direct affiliation to the New Zealand Ladies' Hockey Association who should be required to seek permission for tours from Wellington, otherwise the main object of provincial associations, namely, control of the game in their own districts is taken from them. Finding themselves unable to secure sufficient players to send a team 1 to Rotorua this season, the Kerepehi : Association have signified their wil- j lingness to travel here at the commencement of next season. As stated previously, the Kiwi Club will play in Rotorua on Oetober 10 and will stay here over the weelc-end. During their visit they will be entertained by the local Association, who have arranged to hold a dance at the Majestic Ballroom in their honour on the Saturday evening. At the dance the Robertson and Wairua-a-Rangi Cups will be presented to the Arawa and Taniwha Clubs respectively. On the Sunday (Oetober 11), the annual hockey picnic is to be held at Mokoia Island, the visiting players being invited to be present. It is the intention of the Whippets and possibly the Ngongotaha and Taniwha hockey clubs to form cricket teams during the coming summer. This is undoubtedly a very wise move by the clubs concerned as it will be a means of keeping their members together, which will benefit their standard of play next season. If sufficient suport is forthcoming, it is , hoped to form a Ladies' Cricket As- j sociation.
