PREPARATIONS FOR RETURN FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA ALREADY ORDERED ONLY 36 HOURS FOR OVERHAUL STILL AHEAD OF MOLLISON Air Commodore Kingsford Smith, who Ieft Australia oa September 24 in an attempt to fly to England in seven days, thus lowering Mr. J. H. Mollison's time of 8 days 21 hours, has left Aleppo for Rome on the seventh day of his flight and is thus sufficiently ahead of Mollison's time to encourage his hope of success. Up to an early hour this morning no word of the airman's progress had been received after he left Aleppo. At 1.20 a.m., however, a message from London stated that he had ordered the overhaul of the Southern Cross - Minor in preparation for the return flight.

Rec. Oct. 1, 1.20 a.m. LONDON, Wednesday. Air Commodore Kingsford Smith has cabled to the Heston Aerodrome arranging for the overhaul of the Southern Cross Minor and stipulating that the machine must be returned to him in good flying order within 36 hours of his arrival.
