HIGH SCHOOL

BOARD'S MEETING. HEADMASTER'S REPORT. : The reguiar monthly meeting of the Rotorua High School Board was held on Monday night, when there were present: Messrs. R. B. Nesbit (in the chair), E. C. Banks, Walter Steele, H. M. Martin, H. A. Goudie and Arch deacon F. W. Chatterton. The headmaster, Mr. A. R. Ryder, reported a3 follows for the month of September. — The roll number in j the senior school isnow 162, 10 pupils having withdrawn during Term II. In the junior school the roll remains fairly steady, there being 160 on the roll. The average attendance is being fairly well maintained, in spite of the prevalence of sonae mild cases of influena. Thirty native plants ordered by Mr. Goudie have been planted in the area surrounding the school pit. In addition several shrubs have been donated to the school and I have to thank Mesdames Goulter, Stembridge, Musgrave and Mr. N. M. Keane for gifts of this nature. School Libraries An effort has been made this year to improve the form libraries in the junior school. These libraries enable a much closer supervision of the reading of books to be undertaken by the form teachers, The pupils 5f several of these classes have shown a very keen interest in the work of building up their respective form libraries, and the system augurs well for an increased interest in reading in the

school. I have to thank Archdeacon Chatterton and Mr. G. H. French for the gift of books to the school library. The members of the Women's Club have interested themselve3 in a proposal to found a scholarship for girls in this school. The condition3 gogerning the award and control of this scholarship will be forwarded by the Club to your Board for your consideration. I am very grateful for this praetical expression of the interest of the ladies of this town in the welfare of the girls1 of the school.
