FANCY DRESS BALL
(From
One of the most popular danees which has taken place in Reporoa was held in the public hall on Saturday night when the ladies' basketball club organised a most successful fancy dress ball. The dancing floor was filled to capacity and all the other arrangements incidental to an enjoyable evening, had been carefully attended to. Some of the fancy dresses in evidence were most attractive in design and the hall presented a "gay and animated scene with the many varied costumes. Prizes for the best fancy dresses were won as follow: — Best eouple: Mr. and Miss Foster (Gentlemen Crook and Early Victorian lady) ; best lady, Mrs. D. Lewis (Oriental Dancer) ; best gentleman, Mr. G. Girven (the Sultan) ; most original lady, Miss Eva Brown (Corner, Auckland, All Black) ; most original gentleman, Mr. G. Seccombe (Charlie Chaplin). « Among the ladies in costume present were, ■ Mesdames S. Girven, B. Lowry and S. Hayward (Ladies of the Harem) ; Misses G. Bremner (Spanish Bride) ; M. Craig (Buterfly Tea) ; E. Craig (Ace of Hearts) ; M. Otto (King of Spades) ; J. Otto (Swede Turnip) ; B. Ward (Pierrette) ; M. Ward (Margot of Desert Song.) ; B. Lowry (Russian Dancer) ; C. During the course of the evening, the opportunity was taken to make a presentation to "Mrs. Ward, who has always assisted the basket ball ladies by supplying the music for their dances. As a small tolcen of the club's appreciation, Mrs. Ward" was made the recipient of a handsome cake stand accompanied by the good wishes of thd donors. Basketball and Rugby Over the week-end a party of basket ball players, both ladies and men, visited Reporoa from Ngongotaha. Two. well contested games were played, the visitors ladies' team winning by 12 — ;9, but the Reporoa men succeeded in avenging this defeat by a similar score. Considerable interest was also taken in a seven a-side rugby game between Reporoa and the Ngongotaha vistors, and -the season was brought to an unusual if somewhat amusing close when the game was terminated by two robust' Reporoa players falling on the ball and btirsting it. Unfortunately this was the only ball availabl and with Reporoa three points up hostilities had to be abandoned.
