SEEN PASSING PENANG

MELBOURNE, Saturay. A message from Alor Star, on the Malay Peninsula, states that Air Commodore Kingsford Smith was seen passing Penang. The weather conditions, which had been favourable, changed to stormy, and the Southern Cross Minor at times was enveloped in dense clouds. When he was last seen, "Smithy" appeared to be climbing above the clouds. At that stage the 'plane was about four hours flight from Victoria Point.
