RAIN AND DARKNESS FORCE LANDING ON LONELY MALAY BEACH AIRMAN TIRED BUT STILL HOPEFUL ATTEMPTING TO CATCH UP (Rec. Sept. 27, 5.5 p.m.
-By Telegraph — Copyright) .
RANGOON, Saturday. Air Commo-dore Kingsford Smith arrived here at 5.55 p.m. this evening. He -will leave early in the morning for Jhansi. The airman states that a heavy storm at 7.15 on Friday evening with hlinding rain forced him down on a beach south of Victoria Point where he spent a bad night. He got off the beach in the morning after heavy work in the sand. Just before taking off he discovered that the air-screw was in a bad condition and he had to return to Victoria Point for repairs. Smithy states he can pick up the lost time by lengthening each stage from now on. Thus, his future stages will be Rangoon to Jhansi, to Jask, to Aleppo, to Rome and thence to London. He is disappointed at being forced down.
