mr. macdonald refreshed by short holiday in country ELECTION SPECULATIONS

-By Telegraph — Copyright) .

LONDON, Saturday. The Prime Minister, Mr. Ramsay MacDonald, returned to London today, after a short holiday in the country, which greatly refreshed him. The cabled announcement of an almost immediate general election may be regarded as "intelligent anticipation." So much has been written on this subject during the past fortnight that it seems impossihle that it can be staved off. Apart from one or two notable exceptions, the Press regards an appeal by the National Government, under the leadership of Mr. Ramsay MacDonald, as a necessary evil. Mr. MacDonald's return from his holiday has had the effect of increasing anticipation. Most commentators see herein the removal of all doubts and endofrse the "Evening Standard's" exclusive announcement in regard to September 30. Nevertheless, the position is in nowise definite. It has been reliably learned that the subject has not been discussed by the Cabinet since the middle of last week, but it is almost certain to be a prominent issue at Monday's meeting. The King is due to arrive at London on Tuesday.
