WORKING SHORT TIME The Hikurangi Coal Company's mine at Hikurangi is working short time on account of a shortage of orders. Unless orders increase, it is not expected that the mine will work more frequently than three days a week. Wilson's co-operative mine at Hikurangi was also .idle, as the present weelc's order has been fulfilled.
LIGHTNING DESTROYS FENCE During a hailstorm at Whatatutu near Gisborne, on Wednesday lightning struck a fence on Mrs Howard's farm, shattering a post to splinters and damaging other posts while every wire in the fence was cut and twisted, The fence was destroyed for a distance to two chains.
