No Quorum. The quarterly meeting. of the Rotorua Ghamber of Commerce called for last eveuing was not sufficiently ; attended to iprovide a quorum, and was adjourned until Wednesday, Octaher 7. I c J Hunt Cluh Spiljs. The ambulance was requisitioned on two occasions during yesterday's Hunt Cluh Steeplechase meeting, hut fortunately in neither case were the unseated riders seriously injnred. Jn the first jumping event of the afternoon, a lady rider suffered a nasty tumble, while in the final event, the juvenile September Handicap, a small Maori boy, on a horse very much out of proportion to its rider, found his ; mount too strong for him and was . thrown over a hurdle. Both riders' . -sustained a bruising and shaking but nothing of a more serious nature. Votes of Thanks At the eonclusion of the Rotary Club's public meeting last night in connection with the proposed boys' band, a vote of thanks was moved hy J Mr. E. T. Johnson, to the Eotary Cluh, for the excellent work they had done' in the matter. Another vote of thanks was moved by Mr. J. M. Roberts, to his Worship the Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson, for the interest he had taken and the assistance he had given during the early stages of the hand's formation. Money Qrders to Canada and U.S.A. In .view of the altered exchange situation consequent upon Great Britain's abandonment of the gold standard the Post Ofiice announees that the maximum amount that may be remitted to Canada and U.S.A. by money order by any one person to the same payee and by the one mail is £5. Orders are at present being issued at the present rate of pound- | age, but the orders will he converted j at the ruling bank rate on the date ! the mail is dispatched. Ra51 Service Alteration The Railway Department advertises in another column particulars of i alterations in train services on and after Monday, 28th September. The Department has decided to stop the Rotorua-Auclcland express at Okoroire, Ngaruawahia, and Tuakau, which necessitates the train leaving Rotorua at 10 a.m. instead of 10.5 a.m. The morning train for Frankton Junction, is also advertised to leave Rotorua, 5 minutes earlier than at present. Bowling Club Programme

I The match committee of the Ro1 torua Bowling Club submitted a tentative programme of matches for the early part of the season to the general committee at the meeting on Tuesday evening. It was suggested that the club fours be played at the beginning, to be followed by champion singles, champion pairs, handicap singles, and handicap pairs, a round in each of the four last mentioned competitions to be played each playing afternoon. This will mean that members will not be eligible to enter for both the pairs matches or for both the singles matches, but all members will have an opportunity of entering for two games .for each playing day. The programme was discussed at length and the match I committee was instructed to go ahead and finalise their programme with the objeet of devising a programme which would meet with the wishes of ■ the majority of the active members. Credit Where Credit Is Due. Mr O. H. Coleman, while speaking ' at the Rotorua Boys' Band meeting last night, said that owing- to his being president of the Rotary Club at the time the band was proposed, he was given much undue credit for its formation. He considered that Messrs G. Nelson, Rowland and Painton should receive most of the credit as they did the greatest part of the work, and others who also helped were, members of the Combined Orchestra, members of the Municipal Band, and the bandmaster, Mr. Tregilgas. Assistance to Boys' Band. At the public meeting held under the auspices of the Rotorua Rotary Club last evening, for the purpose of forming a boys' band, Mr O. H. Coleman reported that Mr J. D. Davys had kindly offered to do all the legal work in connection with the incorporation of the new band, under the Incorporated Societies Act, free of eharge. This, said Mr. Coleman, would be of considerable assistance to the movement. Mayor Joins New Band. At the eonclusion of the meeting ealled for the formation of the Rotorua Boys' Band last evening, Mr. J. BI Buddle, president of the Rotary Club, called for members, both playing and non-playing, and His Worship the Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson, was the first to enter his name on the list. Praetically everyone present followed his example and several names were also entered as playing members. Different Persons. The Cyril Smith called as a witness in a recent dane-erouK dri'vino-
