DAMAGE IN WHAKATANE
WHAKATANE, Tuesday. An earthquake of more than usual severity occurred at 1.5 this morning, preceded by loud rumbling. The shock lasted about 40 seconds. Stocks in shops at Taneatua were damaged, crockery and bottles were shaken off shelves, and several water tanks were damaged. No damage is reported elsewere in the district.
