N.Z. CRICKETERS

MR. BRICE CQMMENTS ON RESULTS OF THE TOUR. BOWLERS MUST BE DEVELOPED. Admitting that the side was known to be wealc in bowling before the tour commenced, Mr. Brice, chairman of the selection eommittee, thinks

that the cricket team has done remarkably well at Home considering the weather. "Of course," he said, "we knew before the team sailed that the bowling was weak, but it was the best available. With that handicap the team did splendidly. As with all teams there have been failures. I mean that several members have not done as well as we expected. Dempster, Blunt, Vivian and James have, of course, been sucesses. Page batted well on oceasions only. Lowry was liandicapped probably by his dual position as captain and manager. He has not performed wtih the same degree of success as in 1927, but if you study Lowry's scores you will see he made his runs when they were most needed, and against the best teams.

"I expected more runs from Weir and Page. In comparing the performances on this tour with those o'f 1927, you must remember this team has had to contend with bad weather, and also has played against stronger elevens. The find of the side is Vivian, and he and the rest of them should come back rich in experience. I think the tour made it apparent that before New Zealand can confidently claim to be in the top class we will have to find and develop our bowlers."
