LONDON, Monday. The "Times," in a leader, says: "Ti. 3 gold standard decision is regre Aahle but unavoidahle. It has long been evident that events, especially aboi rd, have pointed to a temporary sus; ension of gold payments. An econornic blizzard has been blowing throvghout the world for more than two years and has now reached an intc.isity which already has driven most countries off the gold standard. "The strain has been especially felt by Creat Britain which is more deeply concerned in international trade and finance. The fall in the price leve's not only has reduced the purchasing power of foreign ers, but has made it impossible for them to maintain their debt payments to Great Britiin and every contineental beligeient has scaled down its obligations by devaluating its currency. Brit ;in alone has returned to the prewar gold parity. ! "If we had not indulged in reckJ less Socialistic practices and if France J and America had not accumulated three-quarters of the world's gold supphes, Great Britain would have succeeded in remaining on the gold standard," the "Times" concludes.
