PRIMARY SCHOOLS
GOOD WORK DONE BY UNEMPLOYED IN GROUNDS A meeting of the Rotorua Primary Sehool Committee was held on Friday evening at the Dolly Varden. Mr C. A. Clarke was in the ehair, and others present were Messrs. W. Kurney, Wilkinson, L. Ewert, A. T. Butt (secretary) and the headmaster, Mr B. M. Green. The chairman reported that he had had four doors, at the school altered so that they would open out into the hall instead of into the schoolroom. He stated that he took this step as a safeguard in case of a panic, if there were a fire or an earthquake. With the doors opening inwards, the children when excited might bank up against them and prevent them from being opened at all, whereas now the doors would automatically open with the pressure from niside. The chairman's action wa3 commended as a wise one. The secretary was instrueted to write to the Auckland Education Board urging immediate consideration of addition3 to the infaiit department of the school as this section of the building was now decidedly overcrowded. Mr Clarke reported that two unemployed workers had been doing imJprovement work in the school grounds for the past three days and had done a considerable amount of good work. These men are to be kept on, as there is still a great deal that can be done with advantage.
