FOUND GUILTY

SALVAGE CONVICTED OF, MURDER OF LITTLE GIRL DEATH SENTENCE PASSED LONDON, Wednesday. At Old Bailey to-day Arthur James Farraday Salvage (23) a poultry dealer, was found guilty of the murder of Ivy May Godden (11), at Ruckinge, near Ashford (Kent), in July. He was sentenced to death. The body of the girl Ivy May Godden was found half a mile from her home. She had left home three days previously with her young brother to gather wood, and was last seen playing on the roadside with a bat and ball. The bat with which she had been playing was buried beside her. Marks on the body showed that the girl had been badly illtreated. Two days later Salvage, a poultry dealer, was charged in connection with the little giiTs death. In giving evidence at the inquest, Dr. James D. Gray, of Ashford, said he was of opinion that death was due to severe slioek caused by a blow behind the ear, coupled with outrage. The child was very strong indeed, well developed, and above the average in height and weight. Salvage during his examination, admitted the murder in a statement. This was produced at the trial, when Salvage denied its truth, declaring that 'he had made it tecause he was "fed up" with the treatment he received from the police.
