LONDON, Thursday. The "Times" political correspondent says that a Cabinet announcement regarding the General Election may he expected without delay. Both the Government and the Opposition are said to regard an early appeal to the country as inevitable. Though no decision has yet been reached it is clear that pourparlers are being carried on on "the lines of | the suggestion first thrown out in j the "Timies" in an editorial for an i appeal to the country by the Naj tional Government as such. i vThe "Daily Telegrafcph's" Parliai mentary lobbyist says that the Gov- ; ernment is considering such an ap- | peal but emphasises that it would be ; on the full Conservative tariff policy for the protection of industry and agriculture. The "Telegraph" writer said that Ministers should realise that the unity shown in the first task of balancing the Budget should be i extended to the greater task of corj recting the adverse trade balance, but they recognised that they must have i a mandate for the. necessary meas- | ures. An arrangement which the consti- ; tuencies are now considering is the ! withdrawal of Conservative opposi- ! tion to sitting Liberals who subscribe i to the Government's programme in | order to avoid three-cornered con- . tests against the Socialists.
