MR THOMAS UNDERWOOD
A well-known and very widely re- . spected resident of the, Rotorua and Matamata districts passed away at his home at Matamata yesterday in the person of Mr. Thomas James Underwood. ^ The late Mr. Underwood was a resident of Rotorua for a period of eight years prior to the war, and dur-; ing his residence here Was* prominent- ■ ly associated with sporting ahd cOih-' munity organisati'ohs . He was oiie of the first active "workers for the Rotorua Fire Brigade ahd Was secretary of' the brigade for 'a considerable period. ■ • ! Before the war, however, Mr Un-j d.erwood removed from Rotorua to Matamata leaving behind him a wide circle of friends with whom he was still able to keep in touch in his new home. In Matamata Mr Underwood took over an accpuntancy pracfice, and in his neV'surr'puhfeirigs quickly identified 'himself witH local and district activities. He was secretary of the Matamata Joqkey Glub for a number of years and a keen supporter of athletic sports and Rugby football.
