CHRISTCHURCH, Wed. Canterbury was swept by a severe wind and rain storm to-day. The wind at times reached gale force with a velocity of 50 miles per hour and .the rain continued without ceasing from 10 p.m. last night till late this afternoon, with a total fall of 1.24 inches.
