GOOD INTENTIONS
NEW ANGLE ON UNDERWORLD FILM THEMES. j j|| A talkie with something of an underwood flavour, but radically different in theme and treatment from the usual gangster film, is offered in "Good Intentions," the Fox movietone | production which opens at the Majestic Theatre on September 17. j | The story, an original one from the pen of William K. Howard, who also directed the picture, tells of the attempted reformation of a famous in- I II .ternational crook. Having amassed quite a comfortable fortune from his nefarious activities and being enamoured over a beautiful girl of society who returns his affections, he decides to give up the old life and
trpad the straight and narrow path. I His old gang, however, have different i ideas about his reformation and the ! ensuing battle of wits between the : master crook and his underlings re- | sults in a . series of daring episodes J seldom seen in one picture. Ediimnd Lowe in the leading role of the gentleman crook who abandons the blackjack for the social register, gives a performance which many critics have hailed as even finer than his work in "What Price Glory" and ".The Cock Eyed World." Marguerite Churchill, who played with Lowe in hi3 last picture, "Born Reckless," is both charming and convincing as the society girl. Regis Toomey, Qwen Davis, Jr., and Hale Hamilton are very capable in the other featured roles; in fact, the entire cast, which is
completed by snch favourites as Earle Foxe, Eddie Gribbon, Robert McWade Georgia Ka-ne, Pat Somerset, J. Carrol Naish and Henry Kolker, give excellent portrayals of their respective characters. j
