PARIb, Thursday. The recent increase in serious crimes of violence has been so great that the convict ship Martiniera has been forced to make a special trip to carry 300 convicts sentenced to transportation to Devil's Island. From the prison to th'e ship the prispners were chained in pairs and marched between troops and gendarmes with fixed bayonets. They were caged during the rest of the sea trip and only released from their cages to expiate their crimes. They will be workiing in chains for the rest of their lives under a tropical sun.
