Both horses have wintered- well and promise to pay their way again this season. Shatter showed useful form at the Grand National meeting, wiinning once and being unlucky that he did not score again.' He is not -being seriously tested at present, -as he may not be raced again until November, hy- which time he may prove a hard horse to bea't in the hest handicap company at seven -furlongs or a m-ile. Pegaway, who is in work at Te Awamutu, is looking well. The Lucullus — Peggy Pryde gelding has not heen required to do much in the ^vay of fast work to, the present -stage of his prepahation for_the latest season of racing, hut the demands in this important -eonnection wall be ad-v-anced from this out. Ferndeii was to have been schooled over the hurdles after his gallop at Wanganui -on Saturday morning, hut on cooling down he was f-ound to be lame, and was not jumped. The trouhle may not be serious, but his prospects of fulfilling his engagements at Wanganui do not look hright. Biddy's Boy, in his only appearance of the season to date, -disposed of a good field of -sprinters at the Pakuranga -meeting. The Illumination — Lady Biddy gelding has gone on the right way under A. Cook's charge at Te Awamutu in the interval and will parade in excellent order for Avondale engagements. Lucky Alice, who has been nominated for the -coming meeting at Avondale, is among thevregular workers at Te Aroha. The Lucullus — Miss Alicia mare, whose stake earnings last season were £874, -showed favourable form during the Autumn and Winter. She has displayed speed at all times, while her stamina .improved during her latest session of racing. Meprisant has heen working along steadily since the Grand National meeting, hut he ifas not had any fast gallops, -states the Christchurch Star. He will not be required again for racing until the Riccarton carnival in November, and as he is fairly forward, there is no special hurry with him. He is in healthy condition and he -should win good races this season. Lady Musk, who -is a member of A. E. Cox's team at Te Aroha, is a three-year-old filly by -the English sire Musketoon from Miss Amans. In her opening start of the new season, Lady Musk ran a good race in the Auckland Handicap at the Pakuranga meeting. She possesses speed -and should come right with some further racing. Recl Boa returned to Southland after the Grand National meeting. He had a lengthy absence from his home quarters, during which he raced at several of the winter -meetings, goin-g as far north as Trentham, where he was a winner in July. He is working well at Invercargill, and he is in great condition, so he sh-ould he on the winning list aga-in very soon. The Australian-bred gelding, Conjurer II., who joined W. McDonald's stahle at Riccarton, after the Grand National meeting, is being'kept going in useful work.
