It is understood that the reticence of officials is-- lending tacit conf irmation to the statement that the Ashburton Club has been notified by the authorities that the sale of liquor over the bar must cease, the ban operating immediately., The Club was .chartered premises prior to the carrying of No License in 1903. Having paid its charter fees annually in the meantime, it re-open-ed the bar in December 1928 when the alteration of the electoral boundaries merged Ashburton in the "wet" Mid-Canterbury electorate,
